A trip to the French Countryside...Cosne-sur-Loire
|
July 15-19
My wonderful friend Geovanna who I met at my church and who also works at FAO invited me to go with her to visit a friend in the country side of France. And who would say no to that?!
It was a lovely long weekend- no running to catch trains or last minute bookings :) We flew in to Paris at night and admired the Eiffel Tower for hours, which was lit up until the wee hours of the night. Geo had just purchased a new, fancy camera, so she tested it out quite a bit with the beautiful backdrop.
The next morning we caught a train to the country side to the town of Cosne-sur-Loire, where we met her friend and former colleague Elizabeth and her husband Michael. They have a house on the country side and had their family visiting for a summer vacation. We spent the weekend relaxing, eating amazing food (lots of cheese and bread!!!), drinking plenty of wine and listening to the extremely musically talented family sing, play guitar and piano.
We also took a trip to the river and swam around and were able to go bike riding a bit. We had a bicycle trip that turned into a bit of a detour when mine malfunctioned and we had to ask some kind French farmers for a lift back home. They were very nice and I was very thankful for Geo’s knowledge of French!!! We arrived back at the house and everyone saw us arrive in a car, though we left on bikes. Mama mia! It was funny, but sad that the bike didn’t fair so well.
On Sunday we took the train back to Paris and were able to catch the Hillsong church service, which was highly recommended by my friend from France, Sarah. After church, we trekked around the city until we had to get to the airport. We lugged our bags around to see all of the sites of Paris in just 6 hours! I am not sure how we did it, but we saw the Sacre Coeur, Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysees, Louvre, went inside Notre Dame and saw the locks on the bridge. Oh and somewhere in there we had lunch at McDonalds, because I am still on a mission to eat at a McDonald’s in every country I visit...ba da ba ba ba!
By the end, we were exhausted but felt super accomplished. Visiting a French family in France with a friend who speaks French was an amazing experience! Some day I shall return for a more romantic adventure ;)
